Certified Organic Blueberries from Pleasant Hill Farm
For over thirty years, John Van Voorhees and Joan Donaldson have
grown certified organic blueberries at Pleasant Hill Farm
located in Southwestern Michigan. John is a third generation farmer
who cultivates bushes planted by his grandfather and uncles in the
1940's, and he also nurtures blueberry bushes that he planted in
the family's peat bog. Because of the soil's high organic content,
the years of organic husbandry and the various natural fertilizers
that John provides the bushes, our blueberries are extra sweet and
intensely flavorful. The Rubels cook into tasty muffins and jam,
while the Jerseys are great for snacking and in smoothies.
Pleasant Hill was originally certified by Organic Growers of Michigan
and currently maintains certification through Oregon Tilth. John
represented Michigan at the first conference
to discuss national organic standards in 1989. He has presented
at organic events sponsored by Michigan State University and trained
interns on the farm.
During the harvest season, fresh berries are available only by
appointment and through U-pick that begins in mid-July. Please call
